Jonas Wilfert

Jonas Wilfert was born in 1991 and grew up in Hohburg near Leipzig. From early childhood, he knew that his passion lay in church music. Even in elementary school, he regularly accompanied church services on the organ. From the age of six, he received piano lessons and extensive musical training from Horst Anders. At twelve, he began organ lessons with Marcus Friedrich. He was greatly influenced by his teachers Elmar Lehnen and Matthias Eisenberg. Jonas Wilfert's studies in church music and organ improvisation with Wolfgang Seifen led him to Berlin, where he has been choirmaster and organist at the historic Hill organ in St. Afra Church since 2016.

As a soloist, he has performed at venues including the Leipzig Bach Festival, the Leipzig Wagner Festival, Berlin Cathedral, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, and Glasgow Cathedral. Jonas Wilfert received a Bayreuth scholarship from the Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation for an improvisation concert on Wagnerian themes. He is also a sought-after improviser for silent films.

As a conductor, he has worked with, among others, the Saxony State Youth Choir, the Bach Choir Berlin, the Berlin Sing-Akademie, and the Prussian Chamber Orchestra. Since 2018, he has been the artistic director of the "Junges Ensemble Leipzig" orchestra. Jonas Wilfert also works as a music school teacher. www.jonaswilfert.de
